My Favorite Refreshing Mohabbat ka Sharbat: The Ultimate Karachi-Style Summer Drink for 2026

One day the weather was quite hot, and I went to a famous market in Karachi. There, a vendor on the way was shouting out loudly: “Get Mohabbat ka Sharbat, cold pink sharbat!”

He was selling that same famous pink milk drink which had fresh, small chunks of watermelon floating in it. The heat was so intense that I couldn’t resist seeing that cold and refreshing glass. As soon as I drank a full glass, my heart felt at peace and the coolness rushed through me.

Carrying that same taste and memory back home with me, I thought why not make that same “Mohabbat ka Sharbat” for my family members as well. Now I often make this same cold and delicious watermelon shake at home for everyone, and everyone loves it so much!

For another summer cooler, try my purple falsa sharbat. And if you like a sweet and sour snack with your drink, my homemade lavashak is a fun treat.

The Ultimate Summer Drink for 2026 watermelon Shake
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 8 glasses
Course: Drinks
Cuisine: Pakistani
Calories: 130

Ingredients

  • 1.5 liters milk well chilled
  • 1/2 cup red rose syrup (Rooh Afza or Jam-e-Shireen) adjust for colour and sweetness
  • 3 to 4 tbsp sugar or to taste
  • 4 cups watermelon seeds removed, finely diced into small chunks
  • 2 cups ice crushed or cubes
  • 1 handful fresh mint leaves for garnish

Equipment

  • 1 Blender To smoothly puree and blend the watermelon chunks.
  • 1 Sharp Knife & Cutting Board For cutting and de-seeding the watermelon.
  • 1 Measuring Cup To measure out the fruit and milk/yogurt.
  • 1 Serving Glasses Tall glasses to serve the chilled shake aesthetically.
  • 1 Straws For a classic, refreshing touch.

Method

  1. Chill the milk well in the fridge for at least 2 hours. The colder the milk, the better the sharbat.
  2. Remove the seeds from the watermelon and dice it into small, even cubes. Keep the cubes in the fridge until serving.
  3. Pour the chilled milk into a large jug. Add the rose syrup and sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves completely and the milk turns a soft pink.
  4. Taste and add a little more syrup or sugar if you like it sweeter.
  5. Just before serving, add the ice and fold in the chilled watermelon cubes.
  6. Pour into tall glasses, making sure each glass gets plenty of watermelon chunks. Garnish with mint leaves and serve right away.

Notes

Pro Tip:Texture and Prep Secret: For the most authentic street-style look and texture, dice your watermelon chunks as small and uniform as possible, and keep them chilled in the refrigerator until the very last second before folding them into the milk. Adding them just before serving prevents the fruit from releasing too much excess water into the pitcher, ensuring your pink milk stays creamy and your red chunks retain that perfect, distinct crunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is mohabbat ka sharbat?

It is a famous Karachi street drink made with chilled milk, red rose syrup (usually Rooh Afza) and small chunks of watermelon. The name means love drink, and it is especially popular in summer and Ramadan.

Why does the milk sometimes split?

Watermelon is slightly acidic. Use very cold milk and add the watermelon just before serving so the milk stays smooth and creamy.

Can I make it ahead of time?

Mix the milk, syrup and sugar a few hours ahead and keep it in the fridge. Add the ice and watermelon only when you are ready to serve.

Can I use another syrup instead of Rooh Afza?

Yes. Jam-e-Shireen or any red rose or strawberry syrup works well. Adjust the sugar, because some syrups are sweeter than others.
