The Breakfast Battle: Paratha or Healthy Oat Meal?
Every morning, there is the same debate in my house. My mother insists, “Fozia, my child! Eat a hot paratha for breakfast, only then will your day be healthy.” For her, a paratha, accompanied by a spicy omelette and topped with a small piece of butter, is the only complete and “strengthening” breakfast.
However, to be honest, my heart sinks just thinking about it. I find parathas very heavy. After eating such a heavy breakfast, I cannot do any work until the afternoon; I just feel lethargic. My heart always wants a breakfast that is easy to prepare, light on the stomach, and provides me with energy for the entire day.
Then, the biggest difficulty is the summer season. In the heat of Sukkur, standing in front of the stove and spending a long time rolling out parathas or frying omelettes feels like a punishment. The mere thought of standing in the heat and sweat to make such a heavy breakfast tires me out.
That is why I have now chosen my path: Oat Meal.
Making oat meal is so easy and fast that there is no need to stand in front of the stove and suffer in the heat. It is not only healthy, but making it is also a joy. Now, I lovingly explain to my mother, “Ammi, in the summer, only oat meal is best; it gives me freshness and keeps me energetic all day long.”
The truth is, oat meal has now become my favorite and ideal breakfast partner!

Ingredients
Equipment
Method
- Instructions:
- Cook the Oats: In a small saucepan, combine the oats, milk, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Achieve Creaminess: Cook, stirring occasionally, until the oats have absorbed the milk and reached your desired creamy consistency. If you prefer it more "milky," feel free to splash in an extra tablespoon or two of milk right before serving.
- Assemble: Pour the hot porridge into a rustic-style bowl.
- Decorate: Arrange the blackberries, sliced strawberries, and raspberries in a cluster on one side of the bowl. Sprinkle the almond slivers and chia seeds over the top for texture.
- Finish: Drizzle with fresh honey and serve immediately while warm.
- Enjoy your nutritious and comforting breakfast!
