Inside My Kitchen: When a Burger Became a Pizza Explosion!
We’ve all had burgers and pizzas separately, but when your kitchen craves a fusion of the two, get ready for a fun adventure! Yesterday, when I made these Pizza-Style Chicken Patty Loaded Buns, I faced a few unexpected challenges along the way.
What Difficulties Did I Face?
-
Plumping Patties: The ground chicken was so soft that as soon as it hit the pan, the patties started plumping up instead of staying flat, making it tricky to arrange the toppings.
-
The Cheese Avalanche: When I placed the burgers in the oven with the cheese and veggies, the cheese melted so quickly that it started sliding right off the patty.
-
Too Spicy! While mixing the chilli garlic sauce with the pizza sauce, my hand slipped and a few too many chilli flakes dropped in, making me worry it would be way too hot.
How Did I Cover It Up?
-
The Spoon Press: The moment I flipped the patties, I pressed them down gently with a spatula to keep them perfectly flat and juicy.
-
The Center-Heaping Method: To stop the cheese from sliding off, I piled it right in the dead center. As it melted, it naturally spread out to the edges perfectly.
-
The Sweet Corn Balance: To tone down the heat, I added a bit more mozzarella and tossed on extra sweet corn. The natural sweetness of the corn balanced out the spice beautifully!
As the sweet aroma of bubbling cheese and oregano drifted from the oven, Nani walked into the kitchen [cite: Her grandmother (referred to as “Nani”) whom she values as a source of culinary inspiration., The user corrected the choice of characters in her recipe narratives, specifying that “Tai and Hareem” should be replaced with her grandmother (“Nani”).]. Taking her very first bite, she smiled and said, “Fozia, looks like we’ll have to get the local pizza shop closed—this is even better!” Hearing Nani’s praise made all my kitchen exhaustion vanish in a heartbeat!

The Pizza-Burger Fusion I Almost Ruined (And My Secret Hacks to Fix It!)

Equipment
Method
- Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prepare and Sear the Chicken Patties
- In a mixing bowl, thoroughly combine the ground chicken, garlic paste, ginger paste, soy sauce, cracked black pepper, and a pinch of salt.
- Divide the mixture into 3 equal portions. Shape them into wide, flat patties (they will shrink slightly and plump up as they cook).
- Heat 1-2 tablespoons of oil on your skillet over medium-high heat.
- Sear the patties for 5 to 6 minutes on each side until they develop a rich golden crust and the internal temperature reaches 74°C. Remove and set aside.
- Prep the Bun Base
- Wipe the skillet clean, add a tiny brush of oil or butter, and lightly toast the insides of your burger buns for 1 minute until barely golden.
- Mix the pizza sauce and chilli garlic sauce together in a small bowl. Spread a thin layer of this sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
- Assemble the Pizza-Burger Fusion
- Place the bottom buns onto your baking sheet.
- Lay one cooked chicken patty directly onto each sauced bun base.
- Spread another generous spoonful of the pizza sauce mixture directly over the top of each chicken patty.
- Heavily top each patty with the shredded Mozzarella and Cheddar blend.
- Press the diced capsicum and sweet corn kernels gently into the cheese layer.
- Sprinkle dried oregano and red chilli flakes across the top.
- The Perfect Cheese Melt
- Place the baking sheet into your preheated oven at 200°C under the top broiler/grill element.
- Bake for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted, bubbling, and shows beautiful, scattered golden-brown spots.
- Remove from the oven, crown with the top buns if desired (or serve open-faced as pictured), and serve immediately while scorching hot!
