My Kitchen Story: The Mystery of the Liter
The story goes like this: one day I was preparing to make my favorite dish, for which I needed exactly one liter of water (or milk). Various measuring tools were sitting on my kitchen shelf, but suddenly my eyes fell upon the teacups sitting there.
I thought to myself, “I always measure using this large jug, so why not see today exactly how many of my kitchen cups make up one liter?
I took a one-liter bottle and began pouring it into the cups, one by one. I filled the first cup, then the second, then the third… by the time I filled the fourth cup, the bottle was almost empty. Only a tiny bit of water was left at the bottom.
At that moment, I realized:

If we use a Metric Cup (250 ml), then one liter makes exactly 4 cups.

However, if the cup is a bit smaller (as is often the case with the US Standard), then one liter amounts to a little over 4 cups.
Since that day, my calculations have become so much easier. Now, if I need half a liter, I immediately know that I just need to fill 2 large cups. This little bit of kitchen “research” has made my everyday cooking much simpler and more perfect!
